We give thanks to God for the life of Duff Means.
In Memoriam: Duff Douglas Means
"O Lord, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Look down upon our sorrowing hearts today, we humbly pray, and be gracious. Help all who mourn to cast every care upon you, and find comfort, through Jesus Christ our Lord."
With deep sympathy and prayers, we share news that Duff Douglas Means passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017.
Born in Los Angeles, Duff graduated from LA State (now Cal State LA) and later received a Masters in School Administration from UCLA. During his career in high school education and administration, he was beloved as math teacher, coach, principal and director of adult education in the Centinela Valley School District.
He and his wife Nancy joined our church in 1963, with their children: Duff, Debbie and Candy. Later, their son Mitch was born. Duff quickly got involved in church leadership, first as Sunday School teacher and later in many other church committees and ministries. He has served as Lay Leader, Trustee; most recently, he was a driver for Shared Bread and a member of Thursday Bible study.
Duff is preceded in death by his brother, Daniel. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy, as well as his children and their families: Duff (Polly) Means II, Debbie VanVelzer, Candy (Rob) Gray and Mitch (Polly) Means, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at 3pm at the First United Methodist Church, 243 South Broadway Avenue, Redondo Beach.
May God grant us grace, that in pain we may find comfort, in sorrow hope, in death resurrection.
